I'm a bit facinated by the link - "dialect zone" and "borders of old
territories".

E.g. the border between Limburgish and Brabantish is virtually coincident
with the old border between the county of Loon and the Duchy of Brabant.

I just have posted two pages to the web:

The subdivision of dialect areas in the Belgian Canton of St Vith:
http://home-13.tiscali-business.nl/%7Etpm09245/lang/mg/sv/sv1.htm
and a page with 5 historical maps for that area
http://home-13.tiscali-business.nl/%7Etpm09245/terr/eumal/sv2.htm

Some conclusions, or just impressions:
- The old belonging to Prüm virtually coïncides with a separated area
- The dialect zones coincide with even a lower level of territorial
structure than the 2d URL gives
- Immigration may lead to a separate dialect area (cf. Tirol-people in
Recht)

Regards,

Roger
