> a sample of celtic etymology in French (quoted from p. 200), cf. English
"mutton":
> mouton: d'un gaulois *multõ, cf. v.irl. molt, gall. mollt, bret. maout
> "bélier". Le sens de bélier est encore attesté en vieux français, ainsi
> qu'en italien (montone).

I wouls like to add "moeteke" in my West-Limburgish refers to a calf (of a
cow), from recently born up to a few weeks old.

moeteke: up to a few weeks
kalf: a few weeks up to a year
josling: a year up to two years
vjaas:             about two years

"Moeteke" was at least common in West-Limburgish (Lonerlands; Vliermaal as
well as in Tongerlands, Tongeren, Hoeselt)

Regards,

Roger
