Just my two-cents' worth:

in my early education in English, I was taught and often corrected by my
native-speaking teachers that a "male witch" is properly termed a "wizard."
The alternative that all seemed to use (and this had much to do, I suspect
with a t.v. broadcast "Bewitched") was, however, "warlock."

And that's what two cents will get you. :)
