Hé Ruud,

Oost- en Westvlaams verschillen in die mate, dat Oostvlaams een Brabants
dialect is.
Het Westvlaams staat daarvan apart en is meer verwant met de
Kuststrook-talen, via Zeeland, Rotterdam en Amsterdam (en UITERAARD ook
het
fantastische en archaische Frans- of Zuid-vlaams dat aan het uitsterven
is.)
Ook wij kunnen een Zeeuw en een Westvlaming van elkaar onderscheiden,
door
het doorsijpelen van de invloed van de Standaardtaal. Ik ben geen
Brabander, maar als ik mij niet vergis, kan een Antwerpenaar (van de
provincie) ook het onderscheid maken met een Noord-Brabander.

Ik ben geen taalkundige. Als iemand mij kan corrigeren? Graag.

Dear Lowlanders,

No the Puerto Rican "rr" or initial "r" is to me identical with a strong
Colombian "j" or the "ch" of my favorite composer, J. S. Bach.

It inevitably confuses South Americans for a while after coming
here.When a
Columbian hears the typical PR pronunciation of  "carretilla" meaning a
wheelbarrow, he hears "cajetilla" meaning a pack of cigarettes.

The Brazilian "Rio de Janeiro" is often pronounced there with both the
initial and medial "r" pretty close to the PR "rr." This is prominent in
the
state of Belo Horizonte, where they also palatalize the "t" and drop the
"e"
of "Horizonte."

Pronunciation of /hw/ and /hj/ is widespread in Northern Jutish.
