Hallo Reinhard/Ron and fellow list members,

Thanks very much for your Lower Saxon song site which I have downloaded for
future listening pleasure.

Now I would like to make an appeal to fellow list members, if I may, to
assist me in languages which do not fall within the scope of Lowlands
Languages. But as the members seem to be scattered all over the world, I am
sure that there are a fair few among you who posses the knowledge to read or
write other languages than Lowlands related languages.

I am at present in the process of compiling details of all national flags
used by member states of the United Nations Organization, from the date such
member states joined the organization. So far I have completed the first 10
countries, in English alphabetical order and who joined the UN in 1945,
which has resulted in 20 different flags sofar. So there is a long way to go
yet as there are 191 member states in all. Vexillological details I obtain
from the FOTW site and my various reference books. However, I find it
important to also use the official names of the varous countries in the
languages and script used by these countries. I would therefore like
permission through this list to ask any of the list members who are familiar
with the Russian and/or Belarusian languages and with cyrillic script to
contact me privately at
vandelooD at cs.com and translate the following for me:

BYELORUSSIA,

In Russian = BELARUSKAY
In cyrillic script =
In Belarusian Latin script =
In Belarusian cyrillic script =

BYELORUSSIAN SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC

In Russian = BELARUSKAYA SOVYETSKIKH SOTSIALISTICHESKIKH RESPUBLIK
In cyrillic script =
In Belarusian Latin script =
In Belarusian cyrillic script =

BELARUS

In Russian = BELARUS
In cyrillic script =
In Belarussian Latin = probably also BELARUS
In cyrillic script =

REPUBLIC OF BELARUS = formal name

In Russian = RESPUBLIKA BELARUS
In cyrillic =
In Belarussian Latin =
In cyrillic =

MINSK / in Russian cyrillic / in Belarusian cyrillic script.

Although I have already transferred all the above in Russian cyrillic script
(a first attempt) I would like to check if I have done it correctly.
Unfortunately I cannot show it here as this e-mail text does not seem to
support Cyrillic script. Therefore, the answers, if any, would have to be
submitted in the form of an attachment to my personal e-mail address.

Another thing I have noticed is that although we write Byelorussian Soviet
Socialist Republic (Byelorussian with double s), whenever I see the language
of Belarus mentioned it is written as Belarusian (with a single s). Is this
correct and if so, why the difference?

I hope that someone in the list membership may be of assistance.

Regards, Andre van de Loo.

Subject: Help needed

Folks, if you respond to Andre's request (above), please do so privately,
i.e., directly to his address rather than to the List, since this is not
within our topic area (except the bit about English spelling).

Thanks.
Reinhard/Ron
