Where I live in New Hampshire, we have a "Windham". I have always
pronounced
it, and have heard most people pronounce it as "WIN-dim" - the last
syllable
here actually should be a schwa sound. There are those, however, who
insist
on pronouncing it "WIND-ham" - this just does not sound right to my
ears!!
People who pronounce it the later way are also, like the former, not
necessarily people from "out of the area", some people from Windham say
it
that way as well, but it just doesn't sound right to me.
