I love studying these Lowland languages and dialects, but how do they
compare to each other? I like the example of the comparison of the
standard Arabic language and its dialects to the
differences in English and Scots. Is that how the Lowlands languages
compare? Thanks.

Although you are casting your net awfully wide, your question is totally
within our scope, so I'm not sure why you are so apologetic about it.

It looks as though we do have to work on your mental image of the
Lowlands people and their cultures, though, because what you said there
makes me suspect that it has been invaded by Hollywood-disseminated
heavy-handed Prussian and Nazi cartoon villains.  I just hope your
mental image of *me* is nothing like that.
