I don't think it is because they think the language is a joke or
anything; some of the people are just not very language minded and they
need a bit of explanation and guidance.

I have had good success with helping out with Danish translation. Some
of the people really couldn't figure out when something was one word of
multiple; i.e. some wrote 'program opdatering' instead of
'programopdatering' and that really discredits the translation. Today
most of the Danish translations are of a high quality.

An example of how bad it can go is the translation of Google.dk (it has
improved; but the translation of the google search toolbar is still
ridiculously).

I really hope to educate these people so they can do quality
translation. I think most of them are willing to learn - but first they
need to realize that the people lecturing they, are actually people who
knows what they are talking about.
