Latha math, a Lowlanders;

Ron, it's all too true that oppression does not go away overnight. Look to
the current situation of Scots Gaelic. Frequent abuse is heaped upon the
Gaels and speakers of Gaelic and their supporters in the press (see a recent
editorial in the Guardian, its title was "Tha telebhisean Gà idhlig cà c",
which, in poor Gaelic, means in a polite way, Gaelic television is
excrement). The point I'm trying to make is that when you try and remove the
stigma immediately, which is what most people would want, there is a harsh,
violent, quick reaction from the 'conservatives', "xeno"phobes, etc. Indeed,
similar to your situation, Ron, with the Low Saxon speakers, some of the
most virulently against Gaelic are of Highland ancestry themselves. It's a
sad, sad situation.

Beannachdan,
Uilleam Ã’g mhic Sheumais
