Subject: Language policies

Beste liëglanners,

I'm quite sure that a sentence similar to "La langue de la République est le
Français", would never be possible in a country where (almost) everybody
speaks more or less the same language (linguistic problems do not arise
there). It doesn't state that every French citizen speaks (or should speak)
French, it does reflect the idea (wish) that government will take place
(solely) in French however. Whether such a nation is entitled to call itself
a republic is the key matter I think.

Greetings,

Luc Hellinckx
