I see... there's another good eplanation for this. Announcing trains at the
station is usually not a job people would move across the country for. So
they're probably locals. And what you heard was their version, or rather,
their fond illusion, of speaking High German - that is, you heard their
accent, not their dialect. Native Southern Germans tend to have a very hard
time indeed disguising their local accent.
