Latha math, a Lowlanders;

Ron, I'm very sorry that such a thing has happened. It's rather disgusting
how people make flash judgements based on absolutely no information. Had the
accuser looked at the website or the list itself, he (or she) would have
noticed that Lowlands is not, in fact, Hoch Deutsch, the language that
Hitler (I believe) held above all other Germanic tongues. But, ochoin,
people oft do not pay attention. It's a shame that even in Germany people
are that ignorant of their past.

Like the author Eugene O'Neill said, "There is no present or future—only the
past, happening over and over again—now." The Germans should not be so
ignorant.

Best of luck in refuting their claims, Reinhard!

Thanks, Uilleam.

I will only do so if I think that something can be achieved.

You see, the backdrop to this story Anja and I have talked about is that the
German postwar generation went into shock and ended up with a self-loathing
complex, constantly trying to prove that they were not chips of the old
blocks, and overreacting by distancing themselves from anything even vaguely
related to the past. Some of us -- and I thought there were more of us --
have matured, have moved beyond that after having faced the skeletons
head-on. Sadly, many other people are still stuck in that time wharp, it
appears, and this clouds their vision and their judgement.

As Han Shan, one of my favorite poets of the Tang dynasty (618-907 CE) said:

   èº«è‘—ç©ºè ±è¡£
   足躡龜毛履
   æ‰‹æ å…”è§’å¼“
   擬射無明鬼

My translations:

   Up d’n lyv leddig-munsterd tüyg,
An dey vöyt steveln uut schildpad-vel,
In dey handen ’n bagen uut hasen-hourn ...
So gayst up dey düyvels vun dey dösigkayt daal.

   Up d’n Liev leddigmunstert Tüüg,
An de Fööt Stäveln ut Schildpaddfell,
In de Hannen ’n Bagen ut Hasenhoorn ...
So geihst up de Düvels vun de Dœsigkeit daal.

Auf dem Leib ein leergemustertes Gewand,
An den Füßen Stiefel aus Schildkrötenfell,
In den Händen einen Bogen aus Hasenhorn ...
So greift man die Teufel der Dummheit an.

Dressed in a garment of empty-patterned cloth,
Feet covered with boots made of tortoise fur,
A bow made of rabbit horn in your hands ...
This is how you approach the devils of ignorance.

Reinhard/Ron
