Subject: Measures

Hi All

Peter wrote about imperial weight names being used for
metric systems - in this case pond and ons. Reminds me
of a recent trip to Norway, where, once stranded a
long way from where I wanted to be and with a two hour
wait until the next bus, I decided to ask a local how
far it was to the next town where I could get a
connection to where I wanted to be. She replied that
it was about a mile - so I happily trotted off, only
to discover later that a 'mile' in Norway is in fact
10km! I wasn't a happy bunny, especially as the bus
which I could have waited for overtook me after about
two hours :-/
