It suddenly came to me: What Ron is talking about here is in Dutch not
called 'gebiedende wijs' maar 'aanvoegende wijs'.  Grammatically the
construction of the two is identical (as far as I remember - my school days
are far behind me-).  Another example of this is e.g. in  the Bible, Gen.
1:26, 'Laat ons mensen maken' / 'Let us make man'.
