Amen.

I think that's a nice, positive note we could end this discussion on the
legitimacy of Afrikaans as a native African language - which is rather
peripheral to the main discussion, albeit a huge periphery.
Thanks to everyone who has, or will, respond to my original questions; this
has been extremely informative. Afrikaans is such an intriguing language to
me *because* of its geography. That a language can go to the other end of
the world and then remake itself in its new environment and remain useful,
that is a beautiful thing to me. Thanks again.
