Color names in various languages can be a fascinating topic.  Interestingly,
English "blue" and "yellow" are etymologically related.

I'm a bit frustrated how difficult it can be to understand the language of
other social groups. For illustration, I take an article from the Antwerp
weekly (in Dutch), het "Belgisch Israëlitisch Weekblad" of 14 shevat 5764
(Feb 6, 2004)

I don't think there are many sentences with a completely understandable
vocabulary.

Strange for Antwerp people with a Christian background are, in the article
below:

RAV BORUCH WASYNG WORDT ROSH
KOLEL VAN DE BETH-JACOV SYNAGOGE

Vorige week werd rav Boruch Wasyng verkozen tot nieuwe Rosh Kolel van de
Beth-Jacov synagoge, gelegen aan de Jacob Jacobsstraat. Deze
talmoedinstelling zal ter herinnenng aan Rav Kreiswirth worden geopend.

Rav Wasyng werd negen jaar geleden aangesteld als rabbijn van de Agudat
Jisraël aan de Lamoriniërestraat. Door het grote succes breidde het 'minjan'
zich zeer snel uit en zocht men de laatste jaren naar een nieuw oord waar
men alle mitpallelim zou kunnen opvangen.

Van haar kant zocht de Beth Jacov shiel naar nieuwe jonge krachten. Het was
dajan Stembuch, tevens rabbijn van de synagoge, die met het idee kwam om met
rav Wasyng en zijn minjan in contact te komen.

De onderhandelingen verliepen vrij snel en rav Wasyng werd met een
ongelooflijke grote meerderheid verkozen tot Rosh Kolel van de synagoge.

De Beth Jacov synagoge heeft zo een heel goede zaak gedaan door ook
automatisch de jongeren van de Aguda aan te trekken waardoor de bestaande
problemen met betrekking tot het aantal mitpallelim van tafel werden
geveegd. Hun toekomst ziet er daarom ook rooskleuriger uit dan ooit tevoren.

Behalve als rav van de Aguda fungeert rav Wasyng ook als Magid Shiur in de
jeshive in Wilrijk en Rosh Kolel in Moskou.

Dat ook de rest van de stad enthousiast was met zijn aanstelling was te
merken aan de vele positieve reacties die er te horen waren.

Van onze kant wensen wij rav Wasyng en de mitpallelim van BethJacov een
hartelijke Mazel Tov en zijn wij er zeker van dat deze geslaagde
samenwerking ook snel zijn vruchten zal afwerpen.

I would say that it *is* Dutch, specifically a Jewish Dutch sociolect (or
better to say "a Judaic Dutch sociolect," to specify religion rather than
genealogy).  Popularly it might be termed a "jargon."  In it internationally
used Hebrew, Aramaic and Yiddish (and perhaps also Ladino) loanwords have
been accepted into the lexicon (and are spelled according to Dutch
conventions [though apparently inconsistently so]).

rosh kolel (Hebr.) ראש כלל 'community/fellowship leader’
rav (Hebr.) רב ‘master’, ‘rabbi’
aguda (Hebr.) אגודה ‘band’, ‘union’, ‘association’
Agudat Jisraël (Hebr. Agudat Yisrael) אגודת ישראל
   “Union of Israel” (an orthodox movement)
minjan (Hebr. minyan) ×ž× ×™×Ÿ ‘public worship quorum
   (of at least 10 men)’
mitpallelim (Hebr.) מתפללים ‘worshippers’
shiel (Yid. shul) שול “school” -> ‘synagugue’
dajan (Hebr. dayan, dayyan) דיין ‘rabbi’s assistant
   charged with ritual order’
magid shiur (Hebr. magid shi`ur) מגיד שיעור
   ‘instructing priest’
jeshive (Yid. < Hebr. yeshiva) ישיבה ‘Judaic
   seminary or college’
mazel tov (Yid. < Hebr. mazal tov) מזל טוב

Going by what I know about recent population developments in Belgium and the
Netherlands,
I guess it can be assumed that one or more Islamic Dutch sociolects exist
also (perhaps different ones among Arabs, Turks, Indonesians, etc., probably
a general one for interethnic use as well).
