Ingmar: Concerning the "r-" prefix in the Olland Dialect of LSaxon, am I to
understand that you have withdrawn your previous opinion?
I previously wrote:

Given that you seemed to reject my interpretation earlier, what sense did
you make of these "r-" words when you read the story? I'm sorry to press you
on this but I'm trying to get to the bottom of this mutual intelligibility
question and have to collect grist for my mill wherever I can find it.

Is there really a linguistic disjuncture between this dialect and the LSaxon
of the Netherlands?

I notice that in a Mennonite glossary E "down" is translated as _'rauf_ or
_e'rauf_ which seems very odd but I assume one has to relate "auf" to Du
"af" and not HG "auf". Makes recognition difficult though.

I'm pretty sure there is, and that it is due to a process of estrangement on
account of Dutch vs German influences (education).  This is on top of a
continuum in which the farwestern varieties were most influenced by Frisian
and Low Franconian, the former in great part to Frisian substrates.
