The same here, but we also use it in the transited sense of 'morast,
amorphous stuff of nearly fluid consistence'.

Same here.  It has been extended to meaning any kind of mud-like substance.

Uh?!  I reather suspect this is a wild guess.  Sure, there are those words
derived from French _biscuit_, usually referring to rusk bread, but I
can't for the life of me see a connection with the stuff we are talking
about (even if we consider the line _Dey beschuyten, dey loypen vun
sülven al weg_ "The biscuits had already started running away by
themselves," a reference to maggots in sailor's tack).  Besides, I would
expect a _-t_ at the end in that case.

Excusez-moi ? ! Ça alors ! M. Kaempfert a une imagination
considérablement fertile.  What on earth would _Schisslaweng_ have in
common with "that's what happened"?!
