I have no translation to offer, but I believe you are also interested in who
is lurking out here in cyberland. I am a professor of linguistics in the
Department of English at Michigan State University, recently retired, so no
longer teaching. I subscribed to the list because I am interested in
Appalachian English (I'm from Kentucky, although not from the mountains) and
the English derived/influenced languages of Scotland, because of my apparent
heritage. There is a Castle Stalker and some slight evidence for a Scots
origin, although there is also an Antrim Irish possibility. The
sociolinguistic threads on language policies have been particularly
interesting because of my professional interests.

I enjoy the reading, when I can find the time. A lot comes through this
site!

Jim

Subject: Introduction

Hello, Jim, and welcome to the speakers' corner!

It's great to make your acquaintance and to read your positive words.

Hopefully you and others will succeed in regenerating some much needed
Appalachian "action" around here.

However, whatever you do, enjoy your retirement!

Yours,
