Thanks for your thoughts and commiserations.
I was luckily able to get through to my husband's office ( he works in
London during the week) and find that they had been able to contact all
staff - most especially those still making their way in to work.

He spent the afternoon ferrying people back home to Essex by car. He was
allowed to drive his car out of the centre late in the afternoon through
crowds of people walking home.

My son, who is in the Metropolitan Police, caused more anxiety until it was
found, to our huge relief, that he had only just gone to bed having come
off night duty at arrived home at 8 a.m.
