I can only testify that I heard the word pronounce "poq" in Xinjiang, Ron 
(by children of semi-nomad pastoralists who used it primarily as a toy 
;-) ). That's why I looked it up at both http://dict.yulghun.com/ and 
http://www.uyghurdictionary.org, and these folks seem to write it like:

پوق

Simply put, read from right to left, it should slightly look like a Greek j 
mirrored along its vertical axis with three dots in the bottom right corner, 
followed by a dashing 9 with two dots on top.

Hi, Luc!

At first I couldn't read it, but it's correct.  I apologize for using the 
old, Iranian-based system (which, incidentally still survives outside China) 
and for the transmission problems.

About the "toys" ... This is by no means unusual in hot, arid places in 
which people are too poor and busy to buy or make them.
