Well, I guess it may be a bit hard to understand for some people, but
probably only for speakers of other Germanic languages and for native
English speakers with rather deficient formal education.

I wonder if one can say it without Romance loans ...

"... (these) are brought into play only in the kinds of speech of a small
number of townships." ???

Sounds weird, harder to understand, as far as I am concerned.  Face it: use
of Romance components on English and Scots can at best be limited, not
altogether avoided.
