CONFERENCE CALLS FOR CHARTER TO GUARANTEE HIGHER EDUCATION IN MINORITY
LANGUAGES
Kolozsvár/Cluj/Klausenburg 6/8/2005 by Áron Balló
The First European Conference on Higher Education in the Languages of
National Minorities was held in Cluj/Kolozsvár and online with participation
from all over Europe. They examined the possibilities of establishing or
extending higher education in the mother tongue of "national minorities"
based on the principles of the European Union and the Bologna Process and
they adopted a Charter of Higher Education in Minority-Languages in Europe.

EUROPEAN MINORITY LANGUAGE DAILIES ASSOCIATION MEETS IN LUSATIA
Bautzen/Budyšin 6/3/2005 by Áron Balló
The European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional
Languages (MIDAS) met in its fifth annual general assembly in
Bautzen/Budyšin, Germany. MIDAS expressed its support for the demands of
the local Sorbian-speaking minority and awarded journalists writing in
favour
of minority protection. MIDAS member newspapers aim to go on the internet
with a joint e-paper soon.


FRISIAN SOAP BAAS BOPPE BAAS MAINSTREAMS ONTO DUTCH TV
Ljouwert/ Leeuwarden 6/6/2005 by Onno P. Falkena
Nederland 1, the chief public channel of the Netherlands, will broadcast
