From: Margaret Tarbet <oneko at att.net>
Subject: "Vigil"

I've been gey busy with other work, so it was a saddening shock
to read that Fru Clara had so suddenly left us. Like most
folk here, I only knew her through Ron's mediation, but she
seemed someone who'd be fine easy to like in real life. I think
perhaps it was because I admired her youthfulness of spirit so
much--she died young, despite her body's age.

I hope Rab's shade won't mind my nicking a line or two from an
epitaph he wrote on the death of a friend--it fits so well:

If there's another world, she lives in bliss
And if there's none, she made the best of this.

trurig,
Margaret

Subject: Vigil

Thank you for that, dear Margaret.

Here's a reminder for those of you who are in the greater Hamburg area that
the memorial service will be held tomorrow (June 21) at 11 a.m. in the
Falkenbergkirche Harksheide, Kirchenplatz 1, Norderstedt (just north across
the border between Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, accessible by bus and
city train from Hamburg).

Below is one of Tant Clara's poems (with AS transliteration) that people
have picked as most appropriate for her farewell. It will be the next piece
I will display with an English translation at the website devoted to her
(http://www.sassisch.net/rhahn/kramer/). [_Kirsch_ is a German loan
replacement for _kars_ 'cherry'; _kirschbleuh_ [kirschbloy] being "cherry
blossom (time)", _Kirschhööf_ [kirschhoev'] "cherry orchards" or
"cherry-growing estates"; _immen_ "bees".) By the way, the sister she
refers to passed away very recently, too.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron

   Mien Olland

Jüst as een Bruut an’n Hochtietsdag
heß witt di antrocken öber Nacht.
Gott Voder, müchst nu gnädig ween,
breek ut den Winter de letzten Tähn.

De Hambörgers mookt sik op 'n Padd,
wüllt sehn mien Olland in Kirschbleuhpracht.
Is ok nich to beschrieben, nee, dat mütt en sehn.
Olland, mien Heimoot, du büß gor so scheun.

De Kirschhööf sünd witt as frisch fulln Snee.
Dat Hatt warrt mi wiet, wenn sowat Scheunet ik seeh.
Licht küselt de Wind in de Bäum jümehr Kroon.
De flietigen Immen hebbt veel nu to doon.

Dat is een Rüken, to gläuben kuum.
In de Uhrn de Immen ehr lieset „Summ-Summ“.
So gooh op'n Diek an de Est ik nu lang,
   geneet dor Kirschbleuh un Vogelsang.

Smucke Gasthööf loodt to Inkihr in.
Hebb allns vergeten, bloots Freid noch in Sinn.
De Tiet löppt so gau, un wi loopt mit.
Vörbi veel to gau is de Kirschbleuhtiet.

De Sünn sackt bilütten no nerden to.
Ok Immen un Vogels findt jümehr Rooh.
To'n Obendbroot dat in 't Öllernhuus geiht.
Mien Süster, liek Mudder, an Hierd nu steiht.

Viertig Johr ik nu al in Hulsteen leev,
af un an mi dat ümmer no Olland hindreev.
Dor sitt mien Wutteln, to Huus bün ik dor.
Een Ollanner Diern bün ik bleben mit Huut un mit Hoor.
