Hi Críostóir, the surname Reiziger lit. means traveller or passenger,
from the verb reizen = to travel, een reis = a voyage/journey/trip, like
German reisen/Reise. This may be a German loan-word in Dutch, because
of 'ei'.
Reizen took the suffix -iger in stead of the usual -er or -aar, *reizer or
*reizaar don't exist.

Reiziger as a noun has another meaning too: gypsy, pikee, resident of a
caravan camp. It is the self-denomination for these so called woonwagen-
bewoners, who form a quite large separate ethnic group in the Netherlands,
although they hardly travel anymore these days.

Michael Reiziger is like many Dutch footballplayers (Gullit, Rijkaard,
Menzo, Davids, Kluivert e.a) from Suriname, former Dutch colony in Guyana,
South America, and there are quite a lot of "funny" looking Dutch
sur(i)names over there. E.g. Graanoogst = corn harvest, Draagbaar =
portable or stretcher, Landvreugd = country joy etc. etc.
Suriname has its own form of Dutch, Surinaams-Nederlands, next to lingua
franca Sranan Tongo, a creole based on English, Portuguese, Dutch and
African languages, spoken as a first languages by the Creoles, the Afro-
Surinamese part of the population; Sarnami Hindi, spoken by the
Hindustani, those of Indian descent, quite a percentage of the total;
Surinamese Javanese, spoken by the people of Indonesian descent; the
Amerindian languages Carib, Arowak, Trio; a couple of  "Bush Negro
languages", Afrocaribbean creoles based on English and/or Portuguese
spoken in communities of former runaway slaves in the rain forest. The
Bush Negroes or Bushland Creoles (bosnegers/boslandcreolen)are probably
the people who stayed most African outside Africa.
And finally Hakka, a dialect/language spoken by the Chinese of Suriname.
