What a somber message about the future of our beloved Low Saxon language,
Ron... And I must admit that I find if difficult myself to use such an
international, general orthography, as you already know. A vicious circle
it is indeed, because I'm afraid that my work (poems) won't be accepted or
even understood when I write in ANS (algemene nedersaksische schryvwyse),
but on the other hand: someone has to start with it. Here in the
Netherland we have an organisation called SONT for the various Low Saxon
dialect of the Northern (Groningen, Drenthe, SW-Friesland) and Eastern
(Gelderland, Overijssel) provinces. They tried to agree on the so called
SONT-spelling, an orthography for Low Saxon in the Netherlands, but
without much success until now. Each region has its own spelling habits
and cherishes them. But the good news is that there is one LS magazine,
De Moespot (Gelderland/Overijssel) that asked its writers -amongst whom
myself -last year to use the SONT-spelling from now on, and they'll change
the orthography from authors themselves into that if they have too.
But if this is a first step towards a unity between German and Dutch LS?
