Oh, this morning I was just reading in De Vries' excellent Nederlands
Etymologisch Woordenboek, still the best one there is. So he had contacts
with Iceland, and cooperated in some ways with the Germans in WO II.
But that doesn't say anything about the relation between <hou zee> and
<heill og sæll>.

Vèier mei 2005 herdeinkt wij weer oonze slachtoffers uut de twèide
wereldbraand.

Det is ’n moment van aoverdeinken en tut bezinning komen.

Der bint nog stieds mèeinsen die daor bitter en ontdaone deur bint.

Wèle heur dierbre naoste verleuren bint in de concentratiekampen,

of wèle nooit terögge komen bint van ’t ftront.

En dat an beide kaanten van de grüppel.

Ök oonze oosterburen hebt smertz un sind traurig, umme die wèle hun

dierbaar en nao an ’t harte ligt en der niet meer bint.



Mien Lied:



Mien lied strooit bloemen, op 't veld der ienlingen.

Vergeetmijnieties,

veur helden die nooit meer zult zingen.

Aanderen, hold  hoge heur lied,

aover heldenmoed,

eer en aoverwinning.

Dooie helden doet dat niet.

Mien lied strooit bloemen,

op de doodsakker van heldenmoed.

Vergeetmijnieties deurdrenkt mit bloed.

Mien lied reert,

Elke bloemknop schröwt in wanhaop,

rüp um vrede,

stop de moord.

Mien lied starft duuzend doden.

Amper iene, die zuch an mien lied stoort.
