Actually it was the loss of Calais that she rued to her death.

Is it an extreme example for those times? It reminds me to (spoken at the
same time) Middle-High-German. But I don't know much about this, I should
confess- Middle Saxon I'm more interested in.

I read it out, this afternoon, to my son (11 years old, and just *seriously*
beginning to learn English, with some un-understandable difficulties, as I
think), an he was as surprised as I for this obvious similarity to the
Standard German of today/yesterday.

But- I don't think it was a typical example for those times. I assume it to
be a Bate's election to point out something in your thread.

BTW: I didn't follow all of it. Where, in England of that times, people
liked to speak this way (sorry- but Ron missed to add any header/topic!)? I
just found any nearness to the nice little Chanèl ;-)!

For futural times I promise to watch your interesting postings (and it's the
same with Cristòir and Isaac) more attentively, Paul!!
