If I heard that or read it I would take it as being something to do with

Subject: LL-L "Etymology"

Hi, all,

my son (11) today asked me for the relations between E: 'kitchen' and G:
'Kittchen', meaning E: 'jail'.

DUDEN supposes it to derive inter alia from Middel Low Saxon 'kuete',
meaning G: 'Höhle', E: 'cave' or from G: 'Kate, Kote', E: 'small house,
cottage'.

But- where is the place for E:'kitchen' here?

Greutens/Regards

Jonny and Junior-Jonny,

Latin _cucina_ 'kitchen' ([ku"kina] > [ku"k'ina] > [ku"tSina])

To Críostóir Ó Ciardha and Ron. It sounds like the turkey who entered the
Scottish-Gaelic name as cearc frangais never ate one. But isn't the name
turkey derived from similar thinking? Jacqueline
