In het Nederlands is dat ook: "De appel valt niet ver van de boom"
of "De appel valt niet ver van de stam".
Ik geloof dat dit het oorspronkelijk gezegde is, die met het paard zal
er later als grap bij zijn bedacht.

In Dutch it's also "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree".
I think that this is the original proverb, the one with the horse is
probably made up later as a joke.

In Dutch we say:
De appel valt niet ver van de boom.(Also: De appel valt niet ver van
de stam)
(She/he looks a lot like her/his mother/father)
the same:  Een aardje naar zijn vaartje.
When it is with the  godfather/godmother,we say in Flemish:
De vonte è gesmet (Lit. The font has stained)
