This reminds me of a staple of our winter times when I was a child - bread 
and milk. As its rather unimaginative name suggests, it consists of diced 
white bread (stale or fresh), placed in a bowl and covered in hot milk with 
a dash of sugar. The bread and milk merge to form a sweet-smelling and 
delicious mass of warmth, rather like porridge. It was eaten as a breakfast 
or as a supper and was very filling - two slices of white bread would 
satisfy a working man. I still prepare it now and again as it is superb at 
warming me up on cold days.
