Dear Ron and all,

Thank goodness the Afrikaans tape recording is not gone. I'm such a cynic...

Now I can focus my energy on reading the story in Gariep Afrikaans. Should
this be sent to Seattle or to Henri?

Cheerio,
Elsie Zinsser

  Lowlanders,

Our Luc Vanbrabant has come through, has resent his sound file of his
(Belgian) version of the Standard Dutch translation. I have processed and
posted it.

Nice! Now Luc will get some intensive electronic petting, like Ingmar's
Barbara did before for her Netherlands rendition.

So, both versions are now sitting happily together on one page, and I love
both of them. More! More!

Unfortunately quite a bit of the clarity and detail gets lost in the
course of file shrinking (to make it manageable for web consumption).
Despite that you can tell that Luc's variety has a lot more allophones.

At any rate, both Barbara and Luc did really splendiferous reading jobs,
didn't they? (They're hired.) Thanks to both of them.
Thanks a lot Ron,
And I must state that what Barbara performs is very lovely to hear, and
has nothing to do with what i explained to Ingmar . I love the sound of
Barbara's file. What i ment to say was that there are a number of people who
talk 'carelessly ' but still think that it is standard Dutch.

Groetjes
Luc Vanbrabant

Dear friends,

Such an outstanding job has been on the anniversary site so far. Reading it
gives you a sense of family, but without being saccharine, and the
personalities of the many 'characters' who comprise the list come out
perfectly in the biographies (in whatever language they are posted in). The
whole thing is a joy that conveys to the world, I think, exactly who we are
and what we are about. It's times like this when I wish I could fling my
necessary anonymity to the winds and join in!

Go raibh maith agat,

Criostóir.

Send it to Henry please. It's best to keep all cassettes _tesammes i æ
slump_, as our South Jutish neighbors say.

Luc:

> Thanks a lot Ron,

Thank *you*, Luc, for all you have contributed (so far?).

Thanks bunches, a soce!

> Reading it gives you a sense of family

And a family we *are* in various ways, or the crew and passengers of the
medieval Saxon _Narrenschip_ ("Ship of Fools"), with various dynamics
between members, lovey-dovey periods, periods of drama ("Anyone call the
cops?"), tantrums, moping, sulking, and then lovey-dovey again, and tiffs
and foolishness are forgotten till next time. :-)

I wish so too. Ah, well ...

Cheers!
Reinhard/Ron
