Oh please, right now, things are complicated enough as they are! Listening
to the candidates after the results came in, I was very much reminded of a
Scottish song by The Other Bard, about the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715
where both sides claimed to have won: "We baith did fight, and baith were
beat, and baith did rin awa'..."

Or should I rather be quoting Heinrich Heine? "Denk' ich an Deutschland in
der Nacht, so bin ich um den Schlaf gebracht."

For those interested, of the five northern, Lower Saxon-speaking
Bundesländer, Schleswig-Holstein voted mainly conservative, and
Niedersachsen and Hamburg mainly socialist; the results for
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Bremen have not yet been released. There is an
interactive map of who voted how on www.spiegel.de.

No, never heared of something like that. There is no special feeling of
relation between English, Flemish, Frisians, Low Saxons etc, so I guess
this would be out of the question. I don't regret it.
Or did you mean Lowlands not in the sense of this list, but just the Dutch
and Low Saxon speaking areas of France, Belgium, the Netherlands and
Germany? Or even just the Low Saxon areas? In case of the latter, it would
be good if both LS nations, i.e. in the Netherlands and in Germany, would
be more aware of their linguistic and cultural (?) unity... Ingmar
