As Afrikaans speaker in Africa, my mother tongue is not considered
an indigenous tongue by the ANC government, the majority of the
population or foreigners.

Will I ever be a native?

That's what I had in mind, I couldn't imagine England or Scotland getting 
involved.  But from what Gabrielle wrote, there probably isn't much of a 
case for political unity - which makes sense: speaking a similar language 
doesn't mean you agree on everything!
