From: Elsie Zinsser <ezinsser at icon.co.za>
Subject: LL-L "Bible Translation" was "Grammar" 2006.04.25 (02) [A/D/E]

Hi all,

Yes, Ron the Afrikaans Bible has been re-translated from the '50s version
into
modern standard Afrikaans. The process started in 1970 with "Die Blye
Boodskap"
in 1975, and "Die Nuwe Testament en Psalms" in 1979. The final full version
was
published in 1983, including the new "Psalms en Gesange" and hymn books.

Base texts used for the new translation Old Testament comes from the Biblia
Hebraica
Stuttgartensia (1977), and for the new translation New Testament, the Greek
New Testament (1975).

The Griekwa Bible is in the process of being translated by Hans du Plessis
and others, unless I am
behind times and it has already been published.

Regards,
Elsie Zinsser

Have Afrikaans bible versions and hymn books been revised to represent
true Afrikaans, or are there still mostly "elevated," "Dutch-ish" versions
in use?
