Language policy, what is it and where does it play a role?

The Frisian language has a long history, but requires for its survival 
permanent support and concerted effort in terms of language policy. The 
Advisory Board provides the advice needed to guide this process. This advice 
involves two aspects:

Firstly, the use of and the desire to use the language, in various locations 
and with people from different walks of life. At home and at work, but also 
at the doctor's office, at the clinic and at local government offices. With 
one's own children and grandparents, but also with the specialist and the 
alderman. In shops, in advertisements and publicity, but also for SMS text 
messages and on the Internet. There are people everywhere that can, at the 
very least, understand and read Fries.

A second strategy is to provide the "infrastructure" of the language 
including spelling and grammar rules, dictionaries, Frisian readers and CDs 
with children's songs for toddlers, Frisian educational tools in the 
schools, Frisian books and magazines, spell checks for PCs, and 
opportunities and materials to teach Frisian to those new to the language.
