    On the matter of writing dialects;
     
I noted this morning on the BBC news that the tourist office in Wigan,
Lancashire, is printing T-shirts with bits of local dialect on them, followed by
fairly tongue-in-cheek dictionary definitions.
 
The one I recall is something like:
Ah were fair clempt:
I was extremely hungry (often stated shortly after consuming meat in a pastry
crust with fried potatoes).
