What about "klootschieten", played in Twente and neighbouring areas I believe:
a ball is thrown ("geschoten") over a rough terrain, and whoever achieves the
preset distance
in the last number of throws (you throw the ball from where it landed
previously...) wins.
And "kolf" (not really played much anymore, except some areas in Noord-Holland),
which is the
Dutch precursor of golf. Played with some stick and a ball, indoors, I believe...
(see http://www.kolfbond.nl/pagina/historie.htm)

Nice quote, but are you quite sure it shouldn't be the other way round?

P.S. I watch all the Argentina games just so I can see Diego Maradona cheer
them on. The guy's a hoot!

We certainly are but how sad that my native Fitbaw Daft Scotland has yet again
failed to even get off the ground.
They rave and rant on about the Game and how great they are, even incorporate
fitbaw terms in daily speech, yet it's been years since they even qualified.

Hardly surprising when we realise it is based on Gaelic Football.
