That was beautiful! I have written a Saxon inspired poem, done as a
challenge for a college English course. I wrote it along with another in
florid romantic style, to round out the 3 published books (technical)and 3
publishedshort stories I had written so as to receive 6 credit hours in
English and not waste time in basic level college English, allowing me to
move into Chaucer. I had noticed that there are many W words in Middle
English and even today, so I offered to write it with all words beginning in
W. I won the bet and got the credit. Here it is, in the hope that some may
find it of interest. note that the scene which was illustrated in charcoal
sketch is a small clan in desperate condition, pushing through heavy snow
and cold to find shelter and a new home warm and safe.

Winter Wander
(Ver. 3)

Whither Wander We?
When Winter, wielding wild wet whiteness,
Wrought with wretched, witless woe,
Wreaks whorling, whirlwind, winning warfare,
What wasted, weeping weanlings we.
Winter-wrapped, we wander weary.
Whither? Wonder we.

Whither wander we?
While white, withering winter waxes,
Wistful were we,wearily waning.
Whether wending, winding - wherever
Wasted, woebegone we waver.
Whither warming, wooded weal?
Whereunto will we wander?
Whither? Wonder we.

Note that weal was a small land holding, a small private woods and field;
later was root of word "wealth". Now used in legal language.
