Yes, I see what you mean. Quick in this sense may mean agile, speedy
manueverability. I can't imagine a coach, however, saying " Well done,
Joe; you have surely exhibited excellent manueverability!" Thus Quick
and fast. And it always good to be quick, as in "quick and the dead".

My understanding of fast vs. quick in this context is that 'fast' refers to 
the ability to reach high speed in a straight line when unimpeded, while 
'quick' refers to agility or the ability to make sudden changes in direction 
to avoid defenders and get a few extra yards. Someone may not be a fast 
runner, but he can have quick reflexes.
