I used to read the Katzenjammer Kids with fascination - mainly wondering 
"what's this guy on?".  In addition to zem haffing ferry stranch Cherman 
akzentz, there was the surreal world they lived in.  Any animal could turn 
up at any time - hippos, polar bears, lions, penguins, all were apparently 
part of the local fauna!
