The other day I said that in South African English _Volkwagen_ seems
Afrikaans due to the occurrence of the common Afrikaans surname _Cruywagen_,
but the first morpheme _volks-_' must have given English speakers some
strong Afrikaans impressions, too. Especially in the 30's and 40's, when
Volkwagen beetles had been introduced, there were many Afrikaans cultural
and political initiatives whose names started with 'Volks-' or 'Volk-', and
that arose after the great symbolic Oxwagen Trek of 1938.

Best regards,

Marcel.
