My theory of a verb "geilen" who is related to "yield" is probably too daring. I
thought of "es geilt" in the sense of German "abwerfen", not in a sexual context,
but referred to German "Ernte" E "crop", kind of "es geilt eine gute Ernte"
meaning something like "to yield a large crop".

Another adventurous etymology:
geil -> geld -> gold -> goud -> god -> gott -> götze -> geiz

At least is this a pun about the global: "Geiz ist geil" (Stinginess is cool)
-"poetry" of the Saturn chain of electornics stores
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_%28store%29\). And btw "geil" and "cool" are
nearly synonyms in Modern German.

It should also be mentioned that in Northern Germany, we have a special
cast-iron implement with which wo whack somebody who is behaving like a
brat. It is called a "Bratpfanne".
