Hello,

I previously wondered about 'den' in Den Haag en Den Bosch
<<<is 'den' here an inflected form of the article, and hence not similar to
the Brabantian forms.<<<

I did not mention that I do realise that the Brabantian 'den' originally is
an accusative which got reinterpreted as a nominative and that the -n gets
dropped in certain phonetic environments.

Ik ben (nog) niet geheel overtuigd, Theo :-).
Ik vind het heel bizar dat 'den' slechts voorkomt in Hollandse namen als Den
Haag en Den Bosh (etc.), exact volgens het Brabantse patroon. Op enkele
steenworpen van Den Haag ligt _De_ Lierde, _De_ Rotte etc. Waarom is er daar
dan geen 'dativus'?
