 Subject: Travels

Dear Lowlanders,

As I said a couple of days ago, our Travel Project (lowlands-l.net/travels/)
receives increasing international attention, and I urge you to help develop
it further.

In the meantime, Arend Victorie submitted a brief article (yesterday), and I
posted it this morning.

Now this is a good example of a brief text submitted in a native language.
Arend submitted it in Drenthe Low Saxon. I processed it, added graphics to
it and then translated it into English. Versions in both languages are now
available interlinked. Furthermore, I adapted the English version for people
that are not in or from the Netherlands, and I added a "Did you know this?"
vignette at the end of it. So we started with a brief, simple chunk of text
and ended up with a substantial chunk of information, a sightseeing tip with
historical background information.

Low Saxon: lowlands-l.net/travels/papeloze_kerk.php
English: lowlands-l.net/travels/papeloze_kerk-en.php

I would like to take this as an opportunity to formally express my gratitude
and appreciation to our Arend. Ever since he joined us a few years ago he
has been supporting and enriching all of our special projects with a great
deal of enthusiasm and cheer, and he has never allowed perceived linguistic
limitations stand in his way. In this and with his gentlemanly ways as well
as with his persistence in using his native language he surely serves as a
model to us all.

Ie kriegt 'n groten daank veur alles, beste Arend!

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
