Hi to all,

in my local Low German Dialect in Münsterland, they formerly used for E:
'boar' the expression LS 'Bär' or 'Schwienebär' G: 'Eber' or 'Keiler' for
wild pigs. E.g. As a method of punishing naughty boys parents were
threatening: "Ick stopp Di bi de Bär in't Schott." E: You get to the boar in
pig pen.

In other of the many LG-dialects I know, this expression never appeared.
Maybe in times of artificial insemination terms are changing too….. As a
child I could never find a connection to the G-word: 'Bär' E: 'bear'!

Do other LL or LG dialects contain a similar expression for 'boar'?.

            Regards

Heinrich Becker
