It's nowadays probably no longer common in everyday speech all over
(Northern?) Germany, but on the other hand you can still see it in place
names...even in Schleswig-Holstein :-D   (check Google Maps, and you
will also find one in Högsdorf...besides two other ones in Neunkirchen
and Viersen and one Rödchen in Achtelsbach).

As a street name, it's much more common: "Am Rödchen" gives you 1110
hits on Google and 831 on Altavista. I haven't checked all of those, so
I can't tell you right away whether those streets are geographically
evenly distributed all over Germany or whether they're more typical for
a certain region. Guess one needs a forest to have a clearing, so
there's maybe more of those in the South?
