> Roger *et al.*, it would be useful to just know where the old Hanseatic
sites used to be, even if the buildings have disappeared. (We could do this
in the manner of "... where today's ... stands ... at the corner of ... and
..."). It would be great to gather that sort of information.

I think for Antwerp a very good description can be found on:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oostershuis

Some scans from:
Oud Antwerpen, naar de natuur getekend en geëtst door J. Linnig
bewerkt door G. Van Cauwenbergh en Prof. Dr. L. Voet
Antwerpen, 1978, Esco
(reedition with comments of the book by Linnig from 1868)
The pages are not numbered

A scan of the left part of a map from 1846
http://www.euro-support.be/temp/lin1.jpg
One finds the Maison Anséatique between the 2 bassins
*(The Hessenhouse, referred to yesterday, is at the right of nr 56)*

The picture of the Oosterhuis by Linnig is at:
http://www.euro-support.be/temp/lin2.jpg
As to his text, on the drawing he restored the building, at that moment in
bad shape, to what it had been (as to him?).

Text with this picture (with comments from the re-edition added):

The Oosterhuis (Hanzehuis) on an aquarel from ca 1600:
http://www.euro-support.be/temp/brab1.jpg
scanned from p.32-33 in:
Guido De Brabander
Na-Kaarten over Antwerpen
1988, Brugge, Uitgeverij Marc van de Wiele

Other houses in Antwerp of the Hanse that also disappreared (as to Linnig):
- "gelegen *op de hoek der Reynderstraat en de Oude Koornmarkt*"
- de *Moeriaen*, op den hoek der straet van dien naam en de korte
Koepoortstraet"

Only Hanze-building remaining is:
"de Cluyse" = de kluis = het klein Oosterhuis
cf. web:

I'm still packing out after my move from the Antwerp to the Brussels area.
If I happen to find more, I will post it in the coming days.

Regards,
Roger

Thanks heaps, dear, ever-obliging Roger!

I will archive this information and the thousands and thousands of bundles
of information our other fellow Lowlanders will send.

Regards, and best wishes for life in Brussels. And keep the Lowlands flag
flying there!
