Dag Roland,

Naar aanleiding van deze zinsnede in je brief:

het West-Vlaams "sjhommeln" betekent dan weer: wat poetsen, wat reinigen,
het huis wat in orde brengen;

In Drenthe gebruikt men "ophemmeln" voor dezelfde activiteit. Toeval is
vrijwel uitgesloten, gezien het woordbeeld en de betekenis.

P.S. Kent iemand het woord "talteren" voor NL schommelen? En zo ja, wat is
de oorsprong?

Welkom, beste Dick!

In het Nedersaksisch van Duitsland hebben wij het plural-substantief *taltern
~ talten* 'lompen', 'vodden', 'flarden' enz., ook *talterkraam* 'oud roest',
'rommel', 'flauwekul', 'dwaasheid', 'onnozelheid' enz. en het bijvoeglijk
naamwoord *talterig* 'voddig', 'slordig', 'knoestig', 'haveloos' enz.

Ik weet ook niets over de oorsprong, maar ik hoop dat deze informatie nuttig
is.
