Thanks, Heather,

for your tips!

> The number of erudite clergymen who 'dabbled' in historical inquiry in
those times was huge and > they often left behind them very well researched
histories of their parishes / local families / > churches etc.
In Germanys darkest time, in the 30ies of the last century, a lot of local
teachers made researches about local history. They still *had* access to
meanwhile vanished documents, and thus, with proper respect to all this
'Blut-und-Boden'-stuff, we can use them for today's investigations.

> and don't forget the Journals that were published. These often contain
short essays on local

These Journals indeed are very interesting, and I am (still) lucky to have
an old neighbour who has a big collection of them, partly dating back
themselves into the 19th c. and full of quotations from and transcriptions
of old resources.

> Family histories are good.
... as long as those families don't sit on them, as they allow people like
me to take a look into their material, and as long as their sometimes really
huge collections had been organized, from time to time.

> Also many old out-of-print books useful for genealogical research are now
being scanned onto

That's a new idea for me. I've always avoided these organizations which try
to sell you a doubtful genealogy of your family, but there should be serious
ones I haven't looked for yet.

Thank you, again, and have a nice weekend!
